Creating club history Falkirk ended off their league campaign on a high note with their first ever win against Stewart's Melville at Ferry Road Inverleith last weekend in a finely balanced close run encounter.
Taking in the very impressive facilities as well as the pitch, which was in immaculate condition,Falkirk settled the quicker and took advantage of ill-discipline from the Edinburgh Students when Liam Brims converted back-to-back penalties in the 10th and 13th minutes respectively. Continuing to take the game to their adversaries Falkirk built up a head of steam as they surged into S.M.'s last quarter of the field and following several close calls on the Edinburgh side's five metre line Open-Side Flanker Gregor Brodie finally breached the line for Falkirk's opening try in the 26th minute, with Brims presently adding the conversion from the side line.
However Stewarts Mel struck back five minutes later with a converted try when their forwards got the better of their opposites under their posts with Inside-Centre Jack Hannay adding the conversion. With the end of the half looming Falkirk paid the price for giving the home side's Stand-Off Nick McCashin too much space to operate in and consequently he set up a try for Flanker Lewis Scott from inside the visitors' 22 metre line.

No doubt stinging after seeing their 13-0 lead cut to a solitary point Falkirk commenced the second period in a very determined mood indeed. Keeping up the pressure the Sunnysiders' forwards drove on and were duly reward in the 55th minute when youngster Prop-Forward Lewis Skinner finally broke the deadlock, running at pace and on a tight angle, Harry Russell perfectly times pass saw the young man crash his way over for the touchdown from a five metre ruck, Liam Brims duly slotting over the conversion.
Nevertheless, in a tense closing quarter and despite losing the services of Graham Gilliland for ten minutes, when he was yellow-carded in the 61st minute and a late try from the home side's Outside-Centre Michael Hanning Falkirk held on for a historic victory and a positive end to their season.
Falkirk deserved their victory and it was a fitting way to end their season, the players have performed above everyone's expectations for their first season in this league and a lot of credit goes to these young men for giving us a great and sometimes rollercoaster experience, with a few games in the league to go we still hope to finish in 4th place. It was great to see the boys enjoying the company of their supporters at the end of the game and we will struggle to hold on to a number of our players as bigger clubs come calling. Those leaving, go with our best wishes and thanks, we hope to see them in the future. Those returning next season, we can't wait to see you again at Sunnyside.
