With their Match Sponsors Falkirk Ladies Day,who were raising money for 'Smalls for All' a charity which helps needy people in Africa,in full attendance and adding their unique brand of support Falkirk made it five wins out of five over Aberdeen Grammar in a very entertaining match at a sun-drenched Sunnyside last weekend.
Opening brightly Grammar took the game to Falkirk and put points on the board when their Stand-Off Sam Knudson converted a 5th minute penalty only for Falkirk to reply just four minutes later when Liam Brims made a neat half break inside the visitors' 22 metre area and jinked and weaved his way through for Falkirk's opening try before adding the conversion himself.
The same man then went on to add a further three points from a penalty in the 14th minute but Grammar's Full-Back Connor Lavery then sent a sweetly struck Drop-Goal sailing between Falkirk's uprights almost immediately afterwards but yet again Brims countered with a further penalty conversion for Falkirk only two minutes later. Near the end of the half Brims and Knudson traded further penalties within two minutes of one another before Falkirk closed off the half with their second try of the afternoon when Right-Winger Jacob Adamson snapped up the ball from a ruck on Grammar's ten metre line and stormed in unopposed for a splendid opportunist try with Brims presently adding the two points.
HT: Falkirk 23 v Aberdeen Grammar 9
In a dramatic opening to the second period of play Falkirk were rocked when the Granite City side ran in two quickly taken unconverted tries from Connor Lavery and Matt Arnold in the 46th and 51st minutes respectively and suddenly the score stood at 23-19. However Falkirk presently responded admirably when both backs and forwards inter-passing well for Graham Gilliland to make a telling break from midfield and send Adamson away at pace for try number three.
Alas things did not always go Falkirk's way as they lost the services of their influential Number Eight Jake Eaglesham for ten minutes on the hour mark when he was yellow carded for a miss timed aerial tackle. Seizing their opportunity Grammar then took advantage of the numbers game when their Open Side Flanker Chris Jollands rounded Falkirk's posts for another unconverted try in the 67th minute too make the score 30-24 to set the alarm bells ringing in Falkirk's ears.
Nevertheless, as the saying goes, when the going gets tough then the tough get going and Falkirk did just that by charging on to add two further tries to their tally. With six minutes of the encounter remaining Left-Winger Angus Rennie assured Falkirk's bonus point by running round and dotting the ball down under Grammar's uprights, following a surge from the back division and in injury time Scrum-Half Harry Russell finished off a touchline bordering attack by diving over near the corner flag. Brims also converted all three of Falkirk's second half tries.
