Trailing at the break by a slender margin of two points an amazing opening twenty minute spell of attacking rugby in the second half saw Falkirk run in five tries, four of them by the same person,to emerge victorious in the meeting of the 'Kirks' at a wet and dreary Sunnyside last weekend.
With both sides cancelling each other out in early exchanges the game sparked into life in the 20th minute in a very controversial note indeed when, after a good build up, Falkirk's Blind-Side Flanker Gregor Brodie charged over for what seemed to be the opening try. However, after consulting his Touch Judge, the Referee then brandished a Red Card at Selkirk's Flanker Ewan MacDougall for an alleged knee to the head at the previous ruck, and for some inexplicable reason chalked off the try and awarded Falkirk a penalty in stead, which the usually dependable Liam Brims went on to miss!!
Although they were down to fourteen men the borders side began to take the game to Falkirk and make sizeable inroads into their territory, bearing fruit in the 32nd minute when Left-Winger Josh Welsh broke over for an unconverted try, following a sustained period of pressure on Falkirk's line. However the home side countered very late into injury time with a converted penalty from Liam Brims.
HT: Falkirk 3 vs Selkirk 5.
Rallying well with a sensational start to the second period of play saw Falkirk eat up the ground into Selkirk's 22 metre area, with Scrum-Half Harry Russell making an incisive break under the posts before transferring to Gregor Brodie, who then wasted no time at all in crashing over for the 42nd minute touchdown. Giving their opponents little time to settle Falkirk were on the charge from the restart and amazingly during the next seventeen minute spell of all-out fifteen man rugby Right-Winger Jacob Adamson went on to score four tries'
His first coming from a back-row breakout on midfield followed by some slick handling from the back division. Four minutes later he was in the right spot to finish off another onslaught on Selkirk's five metre line as he raced over in the corner, before picking up a loose ball from approximately 30 metres out for his third try and lastly the irrepressible Adamson popped up on the opposite wing to get the loose ball down near the corner flag. Having an off day with the boot Brims converted only two out of five attempts at goal.
