Rooted at the bottom of the League Table they may have been, but there was no escaping the fact that it was the hosts who looked the more balanced and eager side, whereas Falkirk looked disjointed and lethargic, perhaps subconsciously treating the fixture as a foregone conclusion at Fort Matilda last weekend. In fact during early exchanges it rapidly became apparent that Wanderers were more up for the game as they punished the visitors in the 7th minute when their Outside-Centre Michael Frizzel pounced on a loose Falkirk pass on midfield and sped away untouched for an unconverted try. However Stand-Off Liam Brims converted a penalty for Falkirk just five minutes later as the Sunnysiders at last began to show some signs of positive action by putting some promising phases of play together, which bore fruit at the end of the first quarter of play. Building up a head of steam from Wanderers ten metre line Falkirk's pack of forwards surged into the 22 metre area, and following a series of rucks the ball was released to the backs for Outside-Centre Graham Gilliland to take the ball at pace and squeeze his way in near the corner for Falkirk' opening try. Brims then went on to convert a further penalty for Falkirk in the 24th minute shortly before they added their second try of the afternoon, when in an absolute carbon copy of the build up to his previous try Gilliland found himself in exactly the same position on the field as before as he raced over for his brace of tries, with Brims converting both very difficult conversions for a Half-Time score of Greenock Wanderers 5 Falkirk 20. Stretching their lead Falkirk notched up two early tries from Right-Winger Jacob Adamson and Full-Back Martin Hall and a Brims conversion before Greenock fought back with a fine try of their own when their Full-Back Tyley crashed over following a well constructed build up,with Frizzel promptly adding the conversion. Nevertheless Falkirk knuckled down and their determination saw them going on to score further tries from Keith Slade,Jacob Adamson and Gordon McGuire, with young Glen Faulds, playing his first game for the 1st XV,cooly slotting over the less than easy conversion of McGuire's touchdown.
