In an absolutely enthralling and very dourly contested top of the table clash, with both teams giving no quarter in a titanic struggle,Falkirk emerged as worthy victors for the second time this season over League Champions Hamilton on a rain-soaked Laigh Bent pitch last weekend, with the hosts most graciously admitting afterwards that they were soundly beaten by the better team on the day. However the Bulls opted to take the strong wind at their backs in the first half and their lanky Stand-Off Owen McLeish most certainly made full use of it by keeping Falkirk hemmed into their last quarter of the field. In saying that though Falkirk almost got off to a great start when Full-Back Craig Robertson gathered up a loose ball in his 22 metre area and set off on one of his typical mazy runs, before linking up with Right-Winger Jacob Adamson, who then made a lengthy break down the touchline before being brought down on the 5 metre line. Nevertheless the Bulls reasserted themselves, and following a lengthy period of concerted pressure,McLeish converted an 11th minute penalty conversion to open up their account after missing an earlier attempt in front of the posts. Encouragingly, and displaying their usual brand of tenacity,Falkirk fought their way deep into Hamilton's half and encamped themselves on the five metre line during a sustained onslaught, but most frustratingly they failed to capitalise on it. Even more disappointingly, after producing some promising phases of play and with the line abegging they squandered a certain try with an awry final pass. Sadly the game was stopped for a lengthy period when Hamilton's Prop-Forward Chris McLaughlin sustained a nasty and serious leg injury in the 28th minute and had to be stretchered from the field of play. Following further intensely contested interplay McLeish went on to convert a second penalty in the 46th minute for a Half-Time score of Hamilton 6 Falkirk 0. With the elements now in their favour, and despite the fact that the whole of the second period was played in a constant downpour,Falkirk took early advantage when Stand-Off Liam Brims converted back-to-back penalties in the 43rd and 49th minutes respectively to even up the scores. For the next 25 minutes both teams threw everything but the kitchen sink at one another and the reality of a drawn match loomed before Brims converted further back-to-back penalties in the 74th and 77th minutes to edge Falkirk ahead, and to put the icing on the cake Prop-Forward Kris Burney crashed over for an unconverted try from a five metre ruck in the corner slap bang on regulation full time, with Brims' conversion attempt agonisingly striking the upright.
