Knowing that league leaders Hamilton had already achieved their goal by winning promotion to BT National League Division 1 next season Falkirk did their chances of qualifying as runners-up, and also promotion, the world of good by routing border side Biggar by a substantial margin of seven tries to two at Sunnyside last weekend, bearing in mind that the borderers had deservedly taken the spoils at the corresponding away fixture earlier on in the season. With the match only six minutes old Falkirk won a penalty on the half way line and Stand-Off Liam Brims stepped up and put in an accurate positional kick to the corner flag, which was hastily scrambled into touch. From the resultant five metre line out clean possession was won for both Gary Dempsey and Harry Russell to break down the blind side, but after their attempts were thwarted, the ball was opened to the back division for Dempsey himself to break through at the right hand upright for Falkirk's opening try, which Liam Brims duly converted. Not long afterwards slick handling from Falkirk's threequarters line deep in Biggar's half was taken on by Blind-Side Flanker Gregor Brodie, who charged on and made good ground before giving Lock-Forward Matthew Tweddlle the scoring pass as he broke through for an unconverted try. Keeping up their relentless pressure Falkirk just kept peppering away at Biggar's defence and tried to expose any weaknesses, and Inside-Centre Graham Gilliland was successful in breaching that wall with a powerful break which saw him being finally brought down on the five metre line under Biggar's posts, with quick recycling allowing Full-Back Chris Robertson to take possession and ghost his way over for the touchdown, with Brims adding the conversion as well as a converted penalty three minutes later for a Half-Time score or Falkirk 22 Biggar 0. Commencing the second period with a great deal of determination and intent Falkirk went on to score two tries in the opening ten minutes, both in the same corner of the field. The first came about when Russell sent a telling grubber kick into the corner, and from the ensuing five metre ruck Angus Inwood barged over for the bonus-point-awarding-try. Four minutes later both backs and forwards worked well together in putting Gilliland in at the corner flag, with Brims converting very accurately indeed from the touchline. However Biggar showed their mettle to a telling effect when their Open-Side Flanker Alan Warnock charged over for a try in the 56th minute, following a period of concerted pressure in Falkirk's 22 metre area, and Full-Back Richard Peacock added the conversion. Responding presently Falkirk fought their way into Biggar's last quarter of the field, and in his usual bullocking and pugnacious style Andrew Hamilton used his bulk by barging over in the corner for try number six. Admirably yet again the visitors retaliated, only three minutes afterwards, when their Number Eight Stevie Campbell got the ball down near the cornerflag, following a five metre ruck and Peacock converted successfully. Nevertheless Falkirk re-asserted themselves by mounting another onslaught on their adversaries' line with Stewart McCulloch breaking away for the Sunnysiders' final try of the afternoon in the 76th minute.
