Commencing the New Year on a high note Falkirk completely outclassed and overwhelmed bottom of the table side Greenock Wanderers by a massive margin of eleven converted tries to a converted and an unconverted try and a penalty conversion at Sunnyside last weekend,with Stand-Off Liam Brims putting in an excellent display with the boot for his very accurate conversions from all over the field. Immediately taking the game to Wanderers straight from the starting whistle Falkirk were soon looking threatening on the visitors' five metre line with Prop-Forward Andrew Simpson crashing over near the corner flag for Falkirk's opening third minute try. However Wanderers struck back with a converted penalty from their Stand-Off Kenny Diffenthal very shortly afterwards,but that failed to put Falkirk off their stride as Right-Winger Jacob Adamson ran in their second try of the afternoon just one minute later following good interplay and slick handling. Showing no mercy the Sunnysiders then went on to score direct from the re-start when Brims cut loose with an incisive break on Greenock's 10 metre line and Lock-Forward Craig Hamilton was on his shoulder to take the scoring pass. Seven minutes into the second quarter Falkirk' bonus point was assured when Brims kicked to the corner,from just inside Wanderers' 22 metre line,for Full-Back Craig Robertson to gather and send Left-Winger Gary Dempsey racing in under the posts. Keeping up the pressure Scrum-Half Harry Russell then sent out an accurate pass from a lineout near halfway,which Inside-Centre Andrew Hamilton then took at pace,and following his trademark scything break he transferred to Lock-Forward David Stoddart who then stormed in under the uprights for an impressive team try,and that same man then repeated that feat bang on the 40 minute mark when he broke clear away from broken play about ten metres from the visitors' try line for his brace of tries. Brims converted all six first half tries for a half-time score of Falkirk 42 Greenock Wanderers 3. Nevertheless Wanderers rocked Falkirk just 4 minutes into the second period when Scrum-Half Andy McDougall intercepted a Falkirk pass inside his own half and sped away for an oppertunist try,which Diffenthal duly converted. Alas for the away side Falkirk retaliated very strongly indeed with further tries coming from Jacob Adamson,Matthew Tweddle,Graham Gilliland,Gregor Brodie and Graeme Simpson,with Brims yet again showing remarkable accuracy by converting all five tries. To their credit Wanderers competed to the end and were rewarded when their Outside-Centre Callum Harrison crashed over in the corner for a consolation try in the 76th minute.
