Falkirk's impressive home form was yet again shown to be in abundance with the eight try demolition of Kirkcaldy at Sunnyside last Saturday afternoon, and despite heavy overnight consistent torrential downpours the pitch proved to be in immaculate order. Entering into the festive spirit Falkirk most certainly laid their cards on the table and took the game to the Fifers very early on,and it paid off in the 6th minute after several promising phases of play when Right-Winger Thomas Kalin showed a clean pair of heels by running in Falkirk's opening try. Eight minutes later Falkirk were on the charge again, with Scrum-Half Harry Russell seizing his oppertunity by making a neat break on Kirkcaldy's ten metre line and breaking clear away, without a finger being laid upon him,for an impressive oppertunist try. Not long afterwards with the home side pressurising in the Fifer's 22 metre area all the signs looked favourable, but unfortunately play broke down about 15 metres out. However smart retrieval work from Gary Dempsey enabled the momentum to be continued with the ball being transferred to Thomas Kalin, who then wasted no time at all in storming over for his brace of tries. Showing what they could do Kirkcaldy countered in the 24th minute when Centre Quintin Sanft made a half break on Falkirk's 22 metre line and sent his Open Side Flanker Dayle Turner in for an unconverted try in the corner. Stand-Off Liam Brims converted all three first half tries for a half-time score of Falkirk 21 Kirkcaldy 5. Keeping up the pressure and positive attitude Falkirk's forwards were in dominant form when they subjected their opposites to a sustained period of pressure on their five metre line, with the dam finally being breached when Hooker Andrew Simpson barged over in the 46th minute. Presently from a very similar scenario, but this time under the posts,Falkirk's pack eventually wore down their opposites for Flanker Johan Wagenaar to break through for try number five. Three minutes into the final quarter excellent lead-up work from the forwards enabled young Connor Faulds to pick his angle of intrusion to perfection and waltz over for a fine try near the upright. The closing twelve minutes saw Kirkcaldy offer little resistance with the Referee firstly awarding Falkirk a penalty try for an off the ball incident and shorly afterwards Harry Russell intercepted the ball on half way and scampered the remainder of the field for Falkirk's closing try in the 75th minute, with Liam Brims converting all five second half tries. After such a dismal week of heavy rainfall it certainly was pleasing to see clear skies for the duration of the match.
