Despite yet again loosing concentration and conceding two early second half converted tries, after leading by 34-5 at the break,Falkirk recovered their first half cutting edge by running in a further three tries in the closing ten minutes to overwhelm Whitecraigs at Sunnyside last weekend by a substantial margin of eight tries to three. Following initial exchanges good lead up work by the forwards forced 'Craigs into conceding a penalty, which Stand-Off Liam Brims duly converted in the 15th minute, and just six minutes later with the pack in rampant mood Brims made a neat break from a five metre ruck and jinked over for the opening try. Almost immediately afterwards a formidable breakout by Falkirk involving the whole team saw Lock-Forward Johan Wagenaar charge on before he made it an all South African affair by sending his fellow countryman Matthew Tweddle in for a well taken team try. With the Newton Mearns side now seemingly all at sea Falkirk took full advantage by going on to score two further tries from Gregor Brodie and Stuart Govan through very similar build-ups involving slick interpassing and forward rushes. Further relentless pressure from the home side saw them surge into 'Craigs 22 metre area, near the left hand touchline, and showing remarkable maturity for his age young Connor Faulds stormed over in the corner for his first try for the 1st XV on the half hour mark, with Brims converting three of the five first half tries. However Falkirk lost the services of Full-Back Craig Robertson in the 39th minute when he was yellow carded and the visitors took immediate advantage when their Number 8 Greig Haswell crashed over from a five metre ruck near the corner flag for a half time score of Falkirk 34 Whitecraigs 5. Grasping the bit firmly between their teeth 'Craigs rocked Falkirk by forcing them right back to their 5 metre line from where Flanker Stuart Pollock charged over for a well deserved try in the opening minute of second period of play. If that was not bad enough for Falkirk the Glasgow side then went on to repeat that feat not long afterwards when their Outside-Centre charged over with Scrum-Half Stewart Anderson converting both tries. Nevertheless Falkirk countered strongly in the last ten minutes with further tries from Connor Faulds,Stewart McCulloch and Craig Robertson and a conversion apiece from Liam Brims and Andrew Hamilton. Alas Brims was yellow carded in the 75th minute for kicking the ball away after the referee's whistle. This Week travel to face Livingston the first round of the Cup,Kick-Off is at 3.00 p.m.
