Livingston 16 Falkirk 38 Full Match Report

Robert Marshall20 Apr 2015 - 16:35

Falkirk outscore Livingston by six tries to two at Almond Park in their final league game of the season.

Travelling with a squad, which contained ten players of mostly under eighteens and under twenties,Falkirk were still too strong in overcoming an industrious Livingston side at a warm and sunny Almond Park last weekend in their re-scheduled last League fixture of the season. Kicking off at 1.00 p.m. Falkirk got into the flow of the match quickly, but however, it was Livingston who opened the scoring with a converted penalty in the 9th minute. Rallying well the visitors then stormed their way into Livingston's 22 metre area, and from a ruck under the posts Scrum-Half Harry Russell took possession and ghosted his way through for Falkirk's opening try in the 13th minute. Very shortly afterwards Left-Winger Gary Dempsey made a searing break from deep inside his own half, outstripping would-be tacklers in the process,as he got closer to the try line. However,as it turned out,he was hauled down just short of the line, but tragically for Falkirk Flanker Stewart McCulloch was red-carded from the ensuing ruck. Undaunted Falkirk continued to pressurise when they won a scrum on Livi's five metre line and Dempsey came in off his wing berth to take an inside pass from Stand-Off Ciaran Wood and sprint over for the touchdown. Livingston countered with a further converted penalty in the 31st minute but Falkirk responded well by closing off the half with a bulldozing try from Hooker Tom Johnson just five minutes later. Ciaran Wood converted all three tries for a half time score of Livingston 6 Falkirk 21. Retaliating strongly the home side then went on to score an unconverted try from a five metre line-out and rolling maul 11 minutes into the second period of play, but Falkirk yet again struck back quickly when Russell took a quick tap penalty and dived in at the corner flag for a fine opportunist try after a period of concerted pressure on Livi's try line. Following a lull in the scoring Falkirk re-lit the afterburners in the 76th minute when they opted to run the ball from deep inside their own 22 metre area, with Connor Faulds sending out an inch perfect pass to Dempsey, who then sped threequarters the length of the pitch for a spectacular try which Wood duly converted. Four minutes later Falkirk extended their lead even further when Outside-Centre Benji Cottle broke clear away for another unconverted try following a short penalty, and Livingston scored their second try of the match from a five metre line-out three minutes into injury time.
