Although Musselburgh came back into contention in the second half an overall solid and competent performance by Falkirk saw them worthy victors over their East Lothian rivals at home last weekend, most particularly in the first period of play. However it was pretty much the case of honours even early on when Logan Bonnar converted a 6th minute penalty conversion for Falkirk, only for Scrum-Half Danny Owenson to reply in kind for Musselburgh just five minutes later. Nevertheless the game burst into life four minutes into the second quarter when Left-Winger Gary Dempsey fielded a clearance kick just outside his own ten metre line, and he just scythed his way through as he accelerated away for a spectacular try. Coincidentally, nine minutes later and from the same position on the park Dempsey intercepted a loose Musselburgh pass and made good ground before transferring to Harry Russell on his shoulder, with Falkirk's Captain gleefully rounding the posts for the home side's second try, with Bonnar converting both tries and a further 40th minute penalty conversion for a half-time score of Falkirk 20 Musselburgh 3. Not to be outdone though the visitors made a very determined start to the second period when they camped themselves on Falkirk's five metre line, with Hooker Ross Gregor barging his way over from a ruck near Falkirk's uprights for a well taken try and Danny Owenson duly added the conversion in the 46th minute. Bonnar then countered for Falkirk almost immediately afterwards with a converted penalty but yet again Owenson banged over two back to back penalties in the 50th and 56th minutes respectively to narrow Falkirk's lead to 23-16. In a very keenly contested, closing period of play Falkirk managed to contain Musselburgh in their own half and Bonnar sealed victory with another penalty conversion two minutes from the end of regulation time.
