Apart from the points scorers this reporter could just as easily have duplicated his match report of the 1st February of this year, which was the last time that Falkirk encountered Whitecraigs at West Lodge,as far as the absolutely horrendous weather conditions were concerned, which seem to be par for the course for the last four or five times that Falkirk have travelled to Newton Mearns. To be quite frank the weather was so bad that most of the home and away supporters sought the sanctity of the clubhouse, and only a few hardy souls ventured out, including Alex Ronnay who deserves a medal for his touch judge duties. Obviously the deplorable conditions had a huge effect on the match over all,but both sides commendably did the absolute best that they could, played out in constant near horizontal icy rain squalls. Seizing the moment a positive start from 'Craigs saw them drive Falkirk back into their 22 metre area,,and from the ensuing ruck in the bottom left hand corner of the pitch Scrum Half Jake Fingers burst over for an unconverted try in the 7th minute. However Falkirk countered just three minutes later, when following a period of sustained pressure,Full Back Gordon McGuire took possession and weaved his way through for the equalising try. Half Time Whitecraigs 5 Falkirk 5. With handling becoming a lottery both sides quite sensibly decided to keep it in the forwards, with contention for possession keenly contested. Getting the upper hand in exchanges 'Craigs took full advantage with hard fought territorial gains, but for some inexplicable reason they chose to take a quick line out throw from the next breakdown of play. Very much against the run of play Harry Russell promptly intercepted the ball and cantered from near the half way line for an opportunist unconverted try,and after the remainder of the match remained scoreless Logan Bonnar sealed victory for Falkirk with a late penalty conversion.
