In a complete reversal from the previous week's sluggish and lethargic performance against Kirkcaldy Falkirk most certainly came out with all gun's blazing to produce a magnificent display to comprehensively defeat fellow top of the table contenders Howe of Fife at Sunnyside last weekend. Without any shadow of a doubt whatsoever this must go down as one of the best and sustained displays ever witnessed at home for a long while, because Falkirk's defence was awesome by denying the Fifers any space to operate in at all. They also took their scoring oppertunies when they arose and hugh credit must surely go to Coaches Niall Lear and Kris Burney in preparing the squad for this crucial fixture. In very blustery and rainy conditions it was blatantly obvious from the starting whistle that Falkirk meant business, and they most certainly were not going to let the weather conditions get in their way by taking the game forcibly to H.o.F. at every opportunity. Consequently their positive attitude saw them open up their account in the 9th minute when they won a five metre line out and Harry Russell just beat Cole Ronald for the touchdown from the ensuing rolling maul, with Logan Bonnar adding the conversion. Keeping up the pressure Falkirk were desperately unlucky not to score on the 20 minute mark when Russell made a searing break from well outside the Fifers 22 metre line,,only to be stopped just short under the posts. However Robbie Hogg was yellow-carded six minutes later, but that did not deter the home side from going on to notch up their second try of the afternoon when Cole Ronald barged his way over from a five metre ruck, following a short penalty in the 32nd minute. Very shortly afterwards, from almost the same position on the park as previously,Russell swiftly broke blind from a scrum and sent Graham Lindsay in for a smartly taken unconverted try,and Falkirk's bonus point was assured, just on half time, when Gordon McGuire just sneaked in at the corner flag for Falkirk's fourth try which Logan duly converted. However for some inexplicable reason, and much to the consternation of the watching crowd, although there had ben a few injuries the Referee then proceeded to play a full ten minutes of injury time. Half-Time Falkirk 24 Howe of Fife 0. With the visitors going hell for leather to obviously close the gap and regain some self respect Falkirk were absolutely rock solid to a man in defence, snuffing out any threats quickly and efficiently. Nevertheless Andrew Simpson was yellow carded in the 67th minute and the visitors scored their solitary try eight minutes later when Chris Martin raced over in the corner following good lead up work from Fraser Clark and Chris Mason.
