Although somewhat disjointed at times, and by no means firing on all cylinders,Falkirk still eeked out a pretty sizeable win over a young Livingston side at Sunnyside last Saturday afternoon, but because of a very serious injury indeed sustained just on half time the game was hastily switched to the adjacent pitch for the remainder of the match.
Seizing his opportunity straight from the starting whistle Right-Winger Graham Lindsay latched onto a kick ahead from Stand-Off Logan Bonnar for an unconverted try out wide and only three minutes later he was on the spot to finish off a fine piece of handling from Falkirk's back division in Livingston's 22 metre area to dot the ball down for his second touchdown.
After losing their way somewhat Falkirk increased their lead in sparkling form in the 26th minute when a storming break, from Livingston's 10 metre line, saw Lawrence Miller charge on before both Benji Cottle and Cole Ronald took play right under the visitors posts, and from the resulting ruck Harry Russell scampered over for a well taken team try, with Logan Bonnar converting the last two tries to put Falkirk up by 19-0.
Keeping up their momentum the home side kept probing and Left-Winger Gary Dempsey was desperately unlucky not to score, when after making a searing break and with the try-line at his mercy, he unfortunately lost his footing and the chance was gone. However the ball was quickly re-cycled and play was switched to the other side of the pitch, where following a five-metre ruck Lock-Forward Matt Larsen crashed over for an un converted try in the 37th minute. Tragically the big New Zealander did not have long to celebrate for in the following passage of play he sustained a very serious ankle dislocation and the pitch was hastily vacated to allow for urgent medical attention to go ahead.
Half-Time Falkirk 24 v Livingston 0.
Obviously upset at the sad loss of such an influential player Falkirk looked a little lethargic in the opening minutes of the second period and Livingston took full advantage. Forcing their way into Falkirk's 22 metre area and winning a five-metre line-out Open Side Flanker James King took possession at the tail and tore through a gap for a 45th minute touchdown, with Stand-Off Kerr Anderson duly adding the conversion. However Falkirk re-established themselves by bursting into action in the closing quarter with further tries from Harry Russell, Graham Lindsay and Ciaran Wood and a solitary conversion from Harry Boyd to emerge worthy winners by a margin of seven tries to one.
