Falkirk 21 West of Scotland 21 Full Match Report

Robert Marshall29 Aug 2016 - 20:12

A well below par display sees Falkirk eke out a dismal draw at home in their last pre-season game.

An extremely disappointing lack-lustre display saw Falkirk eke out a dismal draw against newly promoted to National League Division 2 side West of Scotland at Sunnyside last Saturday afternoon.
In fact as the game progressed it became increasingly more obvious that West meant business and it came as no surprise when they opened up their account in the 12th minute. Putting together some promising phases of play West surged into Falkirk's 22 metre area and set their back division in motion, with their Stand-Off scything through some weak Falkirk defending for a deserved converted try.
However, to their credit, Falkirk responded just three minutes later when, following good interplay near West's goal line, Left-Winger Angus Rennie came in off his berth to take the scoring pass from the resultant five metre ruck under West's posts, with Liam Brims presently adding the conversion. Retaliating seven minutes before the end of the half West's pack of forwards got the better of their opposites when they drove over from a ruck on Falkirk's five metre line for another converted try.

Half-Time score of Falkirk 7 West of Scotland 14.

Nevertheless a forceful and positive start saw Falkirk draw level within five minutes of the restarting whistle when a powerful forward rush, coupled with a neat half break from Brims, ended up with Lock-Forward David Stoddart storming in under West's uprights for a well executed and encouraging try. Yet again though West were having none of it and caught Falkirk napping by adding a breakaway converted try in the 57th minute, with the home side's defenders seemingly all at sea. Stung into action, with only ten minutes of the encounter remaining, a typical pugnacious run from Andrew Hamilton deep in West's last quarter of the field paved the way for young Connor Faulds a member of the Falkirk Sportsters Academy to take possession and canter in under the posts for Falkirk's third try, with Liam Brims converting both second half tries.

Final Score Falkirk 21 West of Scotland 21

No doubt at all that Falkirk will looking for a vast improvement this week when they take on Kelso at Sunnyside in the first round of the cup,Kick-Off is at 3.00 p.m.
