Falkirk's pre-season preparations commenced with a round-robin series of matches against Biggar and West of Scotland, involving games of 40 minutes duration,at a sunny and blustery Cala Park last weekend. In the opening match the hosts, who have several new faces in their ranks this season, opened brightly against strong opposition in the shape of Border side Biggar and deservedly took the lead in the 5th minute when Robbie Hogg crashed his way over for an unconverted try. However Biggar countered strongly, but after absorbing that pressure Falkirk struck back, right at the end of the first 20 minute period when Alex Penman cruised through for another try, which was converted by Logan Bonnar,to put Falkirk up by 12-0 at the break. Biggar asserted themselves much better in the second period of play and Falkirk's defence was severely tested, and was only breached when the visitors sneaked over for a very late unconverted try for a final score of Falkirk 12 Biggar 5. In the second match Biggar got the better of West of Scotland by defeating them by 15-0,after leading by 10-0 at the break. The final encounter of the mini-tournament saw Falkirk completely overwhelm West of Scotland by 41-0 with a hat-trick of tries from Graham Lindsey and a try apiece from Harry Russell,Graham Gillilands,Logan Bonnar and Benji Cottle with Logan Bonnar adding three conversions. This Week Falkirk have no fixture planned but the following weekend they travel to face Dundee High School in a friendly. Kick-Off is at 3.00p.m.
