With the fast approaching competative season very much in mind Falkirk entertained Glasgow Hawks at Cala Park,Sunnyside last Friday evening with the Kick-Off at 7-00 p.m.,and in a useful exercise which consisted of three twenty minute spells both sides entered into the spirit and produced encouraging displays. Faring much the better in the opening period Falkirk certainly took the game to Hawks, but failed to put their adequate pressure into points, and in fact it was the visitors who took the lead with an unconverted try in the 18th minute. However Falkirk most certainly got their act together in the second period of play with a converted try from Scrum-Half Stuart McGhee and neat break from midfield by David Lyle produced a finely worked try for fellow centre Graham Gillilands. In the busy third and closing spell Hawks countered with a converted try six minutes in,but Full-Back Gordon McGuire capped off a good passage of lead up work by Falkirk with a converted try only four minutes later. Nevertheless Hawks were having none of it and retaliated with an unconverted try not long afterwards, and with the score at 19-17 in Falkirk's favour it looked like they were just going to hold onto that slender lead, but alas a neat crossfield kick in the last minute paved the way for the visitors' winning converted try.
