Weekend 21/22 Sept

Weekend Round Up.

A very busy Saturday at Sunnyside with blistering sunshine welcoming visitors Dundee, Madras & Newton Stewart to Falkirk.

The day kicked off with Kelpies Rugby u18s against Dundee Rugby and saw the first outing for the u18s boys. A big crowd gathered with 1s & 2s players able to catch the first half of the early kick off before their match prep, excited to see the next generation of Falkirk players.

A strong start with both teams playing attacking rugby from all over the pitch. Despite a good defensive effort Dundee got the first 2 scores to take the lead with 15 mins gone, stretching out to 17-0 before Kelpies hit back with Captain Dylan scoring from the base of a catch and drive. A final score of 34-5 did not reflect the full game with Kelpies boys unlucky not to add to their tally against a well organized Dundee team.

3pm saw 1s and 2s take to the field, Kelpies boys turn to support. The 1s taking on a promoted Newton Stewart on the back of their handy win against Hamilton.

26-0 down at half time and reshuffling due to injuries in the backs Falkirk left themselves a lot to do in the second half and despite tries from Marko, Harry Russell (sponsored by raging bull) and a Guy Ramsay brave they couldn’t get over the line, final score 26-34.

A reshuffled 2nd XV took on Madras on pitch 2 in a very back and forward game. In a tight first half neither team could fully take control, Madras backs cutting Falkirk apart, with Falkirks pack keeping them in touch with tries from Ashworth, Ormond & Ross.

It was Madras who took the win, with better continuity in their young backline providing the second half edge with a run away 26-47 win. Falkirk having to settle for a try bonus point.

The final rugby of the weekend saw the ever growing minis section take 40+ to a wet Linlithgow with the p7 team playing their first game of full rules rugby with scrums and lineouts. Despite the weather all the kids had fun putting into practice their training.
