Lasswade and Falkirk served up a thriller for the 2025/26 season finale at Hawthornden on Saturday. Gordon Honeyman once again captured all the action which you can check out on his Flickr channel.
In a game with more twists and turns than an Ian McEwan novel, the lead changed hands no less than four times, with Falkirk eventually emerging victorious.
Falkirk capitalised on the strong wind with two successful kick chases by Glen Faulds in a first half where Lasswade started the more aggressively, but found themselves 0:12 down. A Falkirk yellow card cemented the home side's possession dominance and they eventually turned pressure into points with two converted tries to lead 14:12.
A successful Glen Faulds penalty from the 10m line put Falkirk back in front, but Lasswade continued to press and they regained lead with a third try to make the score 22-15 at half-time.
The second half saw the Wheels come off again with a yellow card for Andrew Graham and a bonus point score for Lasswade making it 29:15. The home side were well on top and with the backing of a raucous home support, it seemed as though they were heading towards the win that would guarantee they avoided relegation.
However, the introduction of the Falkirk bench made an impact and with the wind against them, the visitors started to get some joy out of a more directly physical approach. When Taylor Paul sniped a try from close range, it was clear that the momentum was changing. Connor Faulds who had taken over kicking duties from his injured brother converted to make it 29:22.
Another converted close range try from the Falkirk pack drew the scores level deep into the final quarter. With Newton Stewart ahead in their game, Lasswade needed another score, but a charged down kick propelled the ball towards their own line and Falkirk scrum-half / winger Logan McKenzie got there first to dot down and clinch the win 29:36.
Lasswade were gracious hosts after the game despite their understandable disappointment and we wish them all the best for their promotion campaign next season.
